Pioneer 206626 J. E. Allen was the son of William and Elizabeth Allen, of 87, Egerton St., Farnworth, Lancs. He was killed in action aged 28, on 9 July 1917 but his body was never recovered. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, Ypres, Belgium.
