Corporal Samuel Amer of the 8th battalion, East Lancashire Regiment was the son of Margaret Ann & William Amer of 59 or 65 Whitby Road, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. William was from Birkenhead and moved to Ellesmere Port, the birth place of his wife,to work as an engine driver.

Samuel died of wounds on 13th October 1917, Aged 19 and was buried in St. Sever Cemetery Ext, Rouen, Seine-Maritime, Plot P. III. Row H, Grave 9B.
