1/5th Battalion (Terr.) The Manchester Regiment, was born in March 1894, and was at Loretto from 1908 to 1913. He was a Sergeant in his school Officer Training Corps. When war broke out he was given a commission in a Territorial Battalion of the Manchester Regiment, and went out to Gallipoli in October 1915, where he served with the East Lancashire Division. After the evacuation of the Peninsula, Capt. Jowett served with the British Expeditionary Force in France. He was wounded very severely on August 18, 1918, and died of his wounds at Le Treport Hospital on September 22, 1918.

The King's Liverpool Regiment, was born in March 1894, and was at Loretto from 1908 to 1912. He served for nearly three years in the School Officer Training Corps. At the outbreak of war he applied for a commission and was gazetted to a Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regt. Lieut. Jowett was very severely wounded in action, and he died from the effects of his wounds-in hospital-on June 28, 1916. His twin brother, Capt. J. S. Jowett, of the Manchester Regiment, also died of wounds in September 1918. Both twin brothers attended the Loretto School in Scotland -
