Gwladys Street's Hall of Fame |
David France, author of Toffee Cards - The Tobacco Years and
Toffee
Pages - The Post-War Years, had the idea to set up an Everton hall
of fame which would include those Everton players or officials who have
given the club
outstanding
service during its history. A panel of former players, journalists,
shareholders, season-ticket holders and other Everton enthusiasts appraised
the merits of the 700-plus players who have represented the club since
the pioneering days of St.Domingo F.C. They assessed the accomplishments,
abilities, popularity and club service of each player and selected 80 Hall
of Fame members. Obviously, much argument has been generated since
publication about who has been included and who has been omitted, but new
members will be added annually.
For the second edition we talked about a infamy list and after asking
Everton fans on the internet (toffeenet/Bluenose) to help out, this list
(above right) went into the second edition.
A few class acts there, I'm sure you will agree. I also had
the honour of the final word in the book:
My intro page signed by the Golden Vision at the Civic Hall,
Ellesmere Port in May 1998
and one of several pages signed by the players at Hall of Fame Gala
Dinner, March 1999 (Ray Wilson
