Historic England
The public body that looks after England’s historic environment. Nearly 400,000 of the most important historic places in England are listed. The list includes buildings, battlefields, monuments, parks, gardens, shipwrecks and much more.

PastScape
PastScape is a quick and easy way to search over 420,000 records held in the National Record of the Historic Environment (NRHE). You’ll find information on archaeological, architectural and maritime sites. Features include: descriptions of sites or buildings and the sources of information used to compile them; pictures (where available); basic details of investigations into the heritage, such as surveys or excavations and links to maps, satellite images and other websites of interest. Use the Advanced search page to find Second World War defence sites in Liverpool, for example. On finding search results, use streetmap.co.uk to enter map coordinates to find a precise location.

Defence of Britain Archive (Council for British Archaeology)
The Defence of Britain Project databases were created from field and documentary work carried out between April 1995 and December 2001. The purpose of the project was to record the 20thc militarised landscape of the United Kingdom, and to inform the responsible heritage agencies at both local and national level with a view to the future preservation of surviving structures.
