FARNDON WAR MEMORIAL PROJECT

Return to the Battlefields

Return to the Battlefields

After numerous trips to the battlefields, I have put together a short guide with useful advice and information on how to prepare for your visit, places to stay, and sites to include on your tour. This opens as a PDF file and can be save to your computer.

Battlefield visit by local Farndon residents

Ken Wakefield, Neil Lewis and Colin Capewell, visited the battlefields in Belgium and France, and also took time to find the resting place of Charles Williamson of the Old Red Lion in Churton, who is recorded on the Farndon War Memorial. Full report by Ken, plus a link to Charles Williamson's biography which features their visit in detail.

The Whitby High School Battlefields Trips

In recent years The Whitby High School has regularly taken part in visits to the Western Front Battlefields of World War One. As well as being a rewarding visit, it also ties in with work being studied at GCSE and A Level. Accompanying staff have a very good knowledge and expertise of the period and the sites themselves, so much so that they take on the role of guides for the visit
