Halewood Local History Pages

About the Site

About the Author

I have been researching and writing about various aspects of history and local history for the past 30 years. I teach History and I also Lecture part time in Local History at the University of Liverpool Centre for Continuing Education. Although I left Halewood in 1986 I still have close family ties there and still visit regularly. I first moved to Halewood in 1959 and I have a good memory of what the area was like before the rapid housing developments of the 1960s onwards. Over the years I have amassed a collection of documents, photographs, maps, books and various other sources on Halewood. I have written several articles on aspects of the history of the area and I have given numerous lectures to local groups and organisations. A search through the internet will bring up a selection of various links to Halewood on brief or unrelated topics, with no central point to access the material through a dedicated site - so I thought I'd create it.

This site may evolve into a full history of the area, and I do have more material to add, but that will take time. From the outset it is intended to act more as a portal, a centralisation of material to begin your interest.

Any help to develop the site is most welcome - if you have photographs or images of any aspect of the village and parish I would be very grateful if I could scan them to include on these pages. Would you like to write something? Do you have knowledge about buildings, people or events you could add here? Is there anyone in 1980s local history society who would like to contribute?

Is there interest to restart a local history society?

What about a village history leaflet?

If you have any research interests or wish to start a discussion, please visit the forum page and make use of the site - many thanks.
